Caustic soda lye is an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide, which is the same highly caustic compound found in caustic soda flakes or pellets, but in a dissolved form. It is highly soluble in water and produces an exothermic (heat-releasing) reaction when mixed with water. Its highly alkaline nature makes it effective in breaking down fats, oils, and proteins in industrial and food processing applications. This is commonly referred to as lye and is used in a variety of industrial, chemical, and household applications due to its strong alkaline properties. Caustic soda lye is used across multiple industries, including chemical production, water treatment, pharmaceuticals, food production, and textile processing.
